I don’t know the first thing about being an artist or what creating things must feel like but I know I believe it enhances experiences, at least my experiences. That alone makes me feel as though artists are among the most generous of people, enhancing the lives of others and challenging perspectives without asking for very much in return, no hard sell, no shameless self-promotion, no obtuse nor invasive ask. Very recently and for the first time ever, I was grateful for the big blue ring as I was driving along Deerfoot navigating dangers, and being lulled into a catatonic state by the endless grey, dusty, mundane matter that is the freeway. There it was, the contentious oddity we call the Big Blue Ring which is exactly that, a big, blue ring. It bisected my perspective of the drab, grey horizon and did so with an impact that elicited an involuntary chuckle along with gratitude if for nothing other than the colour blue amidst the forever grey and the dystopian theme of Deerfoot Trail. This was the first time I had related The Big Blue Ring with Art and it brought joy and disruption to an otherwise boring experience.
Do you want to know what else I find boring? My feed, the art and the personalization are gone and it has transitioned to ad after ad after ad, and some are mine and I am sorry and because of that my posts are slow as I am uninspired at the moment. I think I can blame my adult ADHD without shame and openly say that I need to be inspired in order to disperse information that I believe is worthy of your time and as of late....and until now I have been uninspired.
I am not sure what value to others blatant self-promotion brings in my industry. I understand it is necessary but I would like to be able to deliver it with some flair and some creativity and some value. I did not have a clue how cringey and stale dated the oh so very pedestrian real estate ads really can be. A banner here, a banner there, a conditionally sold here and a new listing there and the ever-reliable possession date post...am I missing something or is this what the public wants to devour during a typical scroll session?
Houses are art, the people who live in them are art, their stories are art and I believe the honour of being intimately invited into someone's life so that the house and the land on which it is rooted can be provocatively displayed to the public is art and I believe that the details can be curated in a way that elicits curiosity and intrigue.
This is what I am striving for, to deliver real estate information in a way that is interesting and thought provoking, continuing to be community focused, charitably based, celebratory in nature, inclusive in everything we do and unapologetically transparent. I have embarked on a journey that I hope will inspire you to be your weird self-doing things your way to the best of your ability so that in turn you can inspire others to be their weird selves too. All this while delivering information that is valuable and necessary in a way that is beautiful to some and thought provoking to others and making the pursuit of information easy to digest and if youre lucky, even intoxicating.
Yours in truth always.
